Performance – Urban Intervention 2023

Pegueleve (Take it and carry it) took place on May 5, 6, and 7, 2023, as part of the inaugural Casa Pública event at Sans Pena Square (Tijuca, RJ), Mauá Square (Rio City Center), and Guilherme da Silveira Square (Padre Miguel, RJ). In this long-duration performance—spanning seven consecutive hours each day for a total of 21 hours—artist Mery Horta invited the public to choose a garment or accessory belonging to someone in their household, provided that the person actually wore the item or put on the accessory right there in the square and walked around in it.

Casa Pública is a multidisciplinary platform developed by Mariana Paraizo and Mery Horta that explores the realms of the public and the private within the visual arts. The project has seen two editions funded by the Rio Municipal Department of Culture and SECEC RJ, featuring urban interventions in six public squares across Rio de Janeiro with works by artists André Vargas, Rafael Amorim, Ana Hortides, Andrea Hygino, Mariana Maia, Mariana Paraizo, and Mery Horta. Additionally, the event included an art criticism seminar held at the Paço Imperial, coordinated by Thiago Fernandes and Bruna Costa and featuring the participation of undergraduate students.
