Abre Alas show

Performance and installation – Mery Horta, Amador e JR Segurança Patrimonial LTDA – 2022

The Abre Alas show is a work comprising an installation of five items (two signs, a Polaroid camera, a photographic triptych, and a mosaic photo panel) and a performance born from the encounter between artist and samba dancer Mery Horta and the artist duo Amador e Jr. Segurança Patrimonial Ltda. The piece engages with the intellectualized stereotype regarding the objectification of the female body—a view that contrasts with popular understandings, particularly concerning the "mulata show" figure in samba schools—as well as the relationship with what is deemed a work of art, specifically the way art is guarded and protected by security personnel in museums or galleries.

This work was featured in the Abre Alas exhibition at Galeria A Gentil Carioca and the international South South Veza exhibition.
The photographic triptych is part of the Sydney and Gary Mandel collection (USA).
